Pulsation is the alternate opening and closing of the milk liners to release milk from the teats during milking.
Consists from two parameter RATE and RATIO
The pulsation frequency of the teat rubber per minute during milking is called RATE and consists of 4 phases.
PHASE A: The opening phase of the milking liner. The stage of applying the vacuum to the breast to remove the milk from the teat
PHASE B: The open phase of the milking liner. The vacuum is applied to the teat to remove the milk from the breast. In this phase, the vacuum is at highest level to remove milk from the teat.
PHASE C: Closing phase of the milk liner.
PHASE D: The phase where the milking liner is closed to. In this phase is the vacuum in minimum level on the teat.
Milking Vacuum Level (kPa) Rate (puls/min) Ratio (%)
Top Line & Bucket Bottom Line
Cow 48 – 50 42 -44 60 60:40
Goat 42 – 44 38 -40 90 60:40
Sheep 40 – 42 36 -38 120 60:40
Buffalo 40 – 52 44 -46 60 60:40
Horse & Donkey 40 – 42 36 -38 90 60:40
Camel 40 – 42 36 -38 80 60:40
RATIO is the percentage distribution of the open (A+B Phases) and closed (C+D Phases) rates during the total opening and closing time of the milk liner.
